some operas I have seen on videoSergei Rachmaninoff, Aleko (1893)
libretto by Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko
Greek National Opera, Athens, 2024
- Conductor: Fabrizio Ventura
- Director: Fanny Ardant
- Set Designer: Pierre-André Weitz
- Aleko: Tassis Christoyannis
- Zemfira: Myrsini Margariti
A relatively simple production features an onstage "chorus" of dancers who express the words of the offstage vocal chorus visually. Christoyannis and Margariti sing very movingly.
